Thaipusam of Hinduism,

Singapore

In Niger, it does not rain at all for 9 months throughout a year.Wodaabe people celebrate the Geerewol to thank the rain in September. The most popular event is the Male charm dance contest. Dancers with make up and colourful accesarois apeal to the girls by showing their white teeth or makig the funny faces. The contest lasts for 7 days. The winner will be selected by three single girls.

Holi,

India

The festival is to celebrate for a good harvest.   They dedicate the flour to God and share the happiness among people.   On the festival day, not only the family or their friend, but anybody on the street gets splashed with color water and color powder.   The prayers put on the sacred fire and they paint their forehead with the ash to pray for happiness throughout a year.

Voladores(Flying Indian),

Mexico

The festival is held on Corpus Christi day.   They make the 90 meters long pole stand and tie ropes around it for steps.   The five Native Americans in the formal dresses climb up to the pole.   One beat the drum and the others tie the ropes to hang themselves.   They go around the pole 13 times and go back to the ground.   This ceremony is for the Initiation.   They would be the Bird men after the ceremony.

Fiesta de San Fermin,

Spain

This festival became famous as it was appeared in ‘The Sun Also Rises' by Ernest Miller Hemingway.   The most exciting part of the festival is ‘Encierro'.   They release the fighting bulls in town and chase them into the bullring.   Every year, the chasers are gored to death by a bull.

Naadam,

Mongolia

More than 500 horses appear from the horizon with rumbling of the ground.   The riders are the children between 6 years and 12 years.   They fall from the horses here and there.   The adults dash to them to check if they are injured.   They make the children back on the horses even they are crying.   They all are descendant of Genghis Khan.   All the children are covered with mud and sweat, but their eyes are shining for a hope.

Tomatina,

Spain

At noon, the fire works are fired and a great cheer arose in the town.   People throw tomato each other.   The audience and the participants are all covered with tomato.   They keep throwing tomato during the festival.   They use more than 140 tons of tomato which are carried by 7 tracks.

Stick Fight

Ethiopia

Surma tribe use wooden sticks to fight festival. They make body paintings and fight for 3 month. the winner can select his bridal.

Twins Days Festival,

U.S.A.

More than 3,000 twins and triples gather to Twinsburg town from all over the U.S.A..   During the festival the twins parade and the contests over most identical or most unlike twins are held.   Through this festival, the twin married to the twin and some of the twin couples have twin children as well.   The festival is on the Guinness World Records.

King Turkey Day,

U.S.A.

In the festival, they select Miss Turkey from the local farms.   On Saturday, more than 200 turkeys parade on the main street.   The turkey weighs nearly 20 kg which is prepared for Thanksgiving day and Christmas.
