Dragon dancing Vietnam

Hoi Le Du Xuan of Tet, New Year Festival on the 1st of 1st month of Lunisor Calendar

A New Year is celebrated according to Lunisor Calendar. On a New Year day, there are dragon dancing parades all over in Vietnam. One dancer wears a large dragon head and the other hold at the end of the long cloth. As drums and bells start to sound, the dragon head stands up and shake its head. The other dancer moves the cloth up and down along with the dragon head movement. The dragon dancing parades around in the town to drive an evil spirit away.

Tibetan New Year Festival

From the 1st day of the first month of Tibetan Lunar Calendar, they celebrate a New Year, Monlam for 3 weeks. It is the most important event Tibetan Buddhists to pray for peace and a security of the world. On the 15th, they perform the mask play called Cham for 6 hours. Cham is the ritual play to symbolize the triumph of good over evil. Whoever see this play could get an evil to be driven away from them. The Grave Guardian dancing is meant to be protected from the outside world like the feasts surrounding them which eat the dead bodies.

Bad Mitterndorf Austria

In the village, Bad Mitterndorf at the foot of the Alps, the demons ‘Klanpus' come to the village at December 5th night, just before Christmas.

 

Fastnacht

Rorschanch is the village near the Lake Constance on the Rhine between Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Fastnachat means the Carnival night in Germany. Everyone in the village wears animal masks or monster masks and parade around in the town playing music. Some are dressed like the Papageno of The Magic Flute and some wear the wooden demon masks. They party all the night to drive the winter away from the town.

Furth im Wald village of East part of Germany is famous for the legendary story of exterminating dragon. On the festival day, the dragon appears on the street firing from its mouth. The village people try to escape and the legendary brave man appears on the horse to fight against the dragon. He finally stabs the dragon in the mouth by his sword. The legendary lord of the castle welcomes him and makes him marry with the princess. Then, he became the lord and the village was safe and full filled with happiness.

Boze God

Japan

Akuseki Island in one of the southern Tokara Islands belongs to Kagoshima Prefecture. In this tropical Island, the village people have a ceremony for their ancestors starting on the 7th day of the 7th month in Lunisor Calendar. The young village men perform Boze wearing leaves and masks which are made out of old baskets and their legs and arms are covered with bark. When they prepare the costumes before the ceremony, they are not allowed to be seen by any woman or child. The local people dedicate their dancing on 16th and then, Boze appear. Boze rush into the dancing circle to scare the children and to chase the women. Then, they all suddenly disappear.

The Senufo tribe believes that the spirits of dead persons stay in the village and connect to the death world. The evil sprits bring bad lucks to Senufo village people. The village people to perform the ritual to send the dead spirits to the death world and then the spirits change to protect to the village people. In the ritual, the monsters appear and drive away the evil spirits.
